I am still learning

Let us strive to improve ourselves, for we cannot remain stationary; one either progresses or retrogrades.

 ??????????????????

One of the side effects of retirement is uncommitted time in our personal bank. There is hardly a day that goes by that we don’t have some hours that we can use any way we want. Many of us turn the free time into waiting time, waiting for something to happen or something to do only to learn that we can’t wait for something to come to us to enrich our days. Others use the time to see, learn and enhance what they have.

I have been grateful to finally have time to see the good in people that I never saw before. I also have enjoyed seeing the results of people’s efforts while getting to know many of the great creators. I have listened to some outstanding lectures on our culture, our history and we the people. It is amazing how that which was once boring has taken on a new luster with the patina added by time.

I think the greatest gift we are given is the opportunity to see what we have missed over the years, but not only see it but appreciate it. And best of all I find that some of my favorite heroes are not the guys that hit the home runs but the guys who sell the hot dogs in the stands.

The bottom line is that continuing to always work on self-improvement pays off by enriching all of our years. Here are some tips that are worthwhile no matter if you are 18 or 80. I wish I knew who wrote the piece, I think I would like him

Self-Improvement As It Applies To You.

How does self-improvement apply to each of us? There is no one system or technique which applies equally across the board. There are numerous books, articles, teachers, techniques and schools of thought to guide us in our quest for self- improvement. There are a number of common threads running throughout all of these. Here are just a few of them:

Treat others as you wish to be treated.

You become what you constantly think about.

You determine what you are and what you will be by the choices you make.

When you honestly and deeply believe something it will become true.

Eat, breathe and live as though you were wealthy and you will become wealthy.

When your main focus is on lack and poverty you will continue to be poor and lacking.

Visualize what you wish as though it were true right now and not at some future date.

Take action on your wishes (dreams, desires).

Life is but a journey which is taken one step at a time. All we ever have is the step we are currently taking.

Never accept anything as being the truth for you until you have verified it for your own purposes. Another’s truth may well be the direct opposite of your truth.

No matter what you do or what happens, just do not quit. Those who continue to seek self-development and growth always win. It is simply a matter of time.

Be positive, as positive thoughts become your word, your words become your behavior, your behavior becomes your habit, your habit becomes your value and your value becomes your destiny.

After 20 years two college rivals bumped into each other. “Do you remember how I used to be so fat and flabby?’ asked the first “Well, I’ve been on an exercise program for a few years, and now I run marathons.”

“That’s’ great!” replied the other man.

“And,” the first man continued, “do you remember how I used to be shy and a poor student? Well, I took a course in public speaking, and now I make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on the lecture circuit”

“That’s great!” came the reply.

“Oh, and how about you?” the first man asked. “Have you changed at all?”

“Well, yes I have,” replied the second man. “Remember how brutally honest I used to be, and how when someone said something uninteresting, I would reply, “I couldn’t care less?” Well now I just say, “That’s’ great!”

You’re getting old when you don’t care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don’t have to go along.

A man is being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turns yellow, just in front of him. He does the right thing and stops at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman hits the roof, and the horn, fuming in frustration as she misses her chance to get through the intersection with him. As she is still in mid-rant, she hears a tap on her window and looks up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer orders her to exit her car with her hands up.

He takes her to the police station where she is searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approaches the cell and opens the door. She is escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer is waiting with her personal effects.

He says, “I’m very sorry for this mistake.” “You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. ” I noticed the “Choose Life” license plate holder, the “What Would Jesus Do” bumper sticker, the “Follow Me to Sunday School” bumper sticker, and the chrome plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.”

“Naturally I assumed you had stolen the car.”

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That’s my idea of a perfect day.

He said: As a high school football coach, I’m aware that student athletes tend to focus too much on sports.  Bob, a fellow coach, was talking about one such player, who called him at home one night. When his wife informed the kid that Bob wasn’t home, he became frantic and said he had to speak to the coach right away.

“Just calm down, and I’ll have him call you as soon as he gets home,” the coach’s wife told him.  “What’s your number?”

The flustered kid replied, “Three.”
